A couple of useful applications

Haven’t posted for a while due to new addition in the family. So here’s a couple of useful applications I have put to work recently.

Disk Max

Feature List
Automates emptying your recycle bin (if specified), cleaning up of installation remnants, and debugging information.
Cleans up every user’s History, Temp, Temporary Internet Files, Cookies (if specified), Recently opened documents list, explorer thumbnail cache and windows error reporting logs.
Clears out Windows cache, unused legacy cursors (on Vista, if specified), debugging info, internet logs, help center caches, repair information, DLL caches, Logs, temporary files and windows update roll-back files.
Cleans up after Vista SP1/SP2 install (if specified).
Removes registry entries for multiple Most Recently Used lists.
Clears out Windows Vista event logs (no other application out there does this).
Deep scans your hard-disk to remove all files of type log, old, prv, chk, swp, bak, gid, wbk, tmp and dmp. This can be cancelled if you are an advanced user who needs these types of files for immediate troubleshooting.
Defragments your HDD(s) – basically rearranges files around so that they can be accessed faster.
Displays a log of all the activities performed along with associated time stamps.

Memory Cleaner

Feature List
Trims processes’ working set.
Clears system cache.
Monitors RAM usage and reports minimum, maximum and average (true average, not (min+max)/2).
Reports Pagefile and virtual memory usage.

Speed up your computer at startup

You know what its like when you have been using your PC or Laptop for a few months or even years, it starts to take longer and longer to boot. Ever wondered why that is? You probably know… but I’m going to tell you again anyway

It’s because over a period of time, you have added new programs or installed devices that comes with “extra” software. These programs add themselves to your startup because they want to appear to run very quickly when you click on them. In some instances it really is totally unnecessary for these programs to be running at all. And in some cases these programs can be running in your startup for years and you never ever use them.

This is where the clever program called Soluto comes in. It’s a free download that you install on your PC and it can help you pause or delay or remove programs that are not necessary at the initial stages of starting your computer. It cut my laptop startup by half.

Very easy to follow the instructions and there is even a video on the website.

Dummy File Creator

Dummy File Creator is a simple program which generates files of any size with ease. Very useful for disk speed test, CD burning test, network speed test, or upload testing. This program also has a built-in random function, so users can choose to create either compressible or non-compressible files.

Unfortunately, Virtual Clone Drive / Daemon Tools doesn’t support Windows 2o08 64-bit.

Found this free one that works at treat!

This also works on Windows 7 x64 which is nice
